Penny Forward Launches Innovative Training to Help Blind and Low Vision People Get Out of Debt

As America drifts toward what some are calling a recession, a Minnesota-based non-profit corporation, Penny Forward Inc, is equipping people who are blind or have low vision to improve their personal and family finances by getting out of debt.

Earlier this year, Penny Forward launched a new online coaching and training platform designed to close the financial intelligence gap for people who are blind or who experience vision loss. So far, Penny Forward has launched courses on tax preparation and how to manage personal credit, and now, a course focused on helping blind and low vision consumers dig themselves out of debt.

According to Penny Forward President and CEO, Chris Peterson, who is himself blind: “Personal debt is an overwhelming topic for millions of Americans, and it’s made even worse by the number of opinions that friends and family members have about consumer credit, borrowing money, paying it back and avoiding debt.” Peterson adds that “this course is designed to remove the judgment that often comes with this very difficult subject. Instead, the focus is on what individuals can do to reduce debt and places they can go for help and support.” Best of all, the course is designed to be completely accessible for blind and low vision people—many of whom cannot effectively participate in standard personal finance courses and seminars because the materials are not available in formats they can read.

“Digging Out of Debt – A Guide to Conquering Overwhelming Debt” is the third course in a personal finance series that Penny Forward launched earlier this year.
