Nov. 15 Part 2, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Bank Examiner

We are excited to invite you to our members-only group chats throughout the month of November, where we will be hosting a four-part series on “Careers in Personal Finance.” Whether you have a passion for helping individuals make, manage, or grow their money, or you’re simply curious about the diverse career opportunities within the realm of personal finance, this series is tailor-made for you.

Our goal is to provide you with valuable insights into various personal finance career options and to introduce you to experienced professionals working in the field. We have put this together to help you make informed decisions about your career path or simply expanding your knowledge in this area.

This week, we welcome Bob Shingleton.

Bob is a West Virginia native and a retired Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Bank Examiner.  He earned bachelors and masters degrees from West Virginia University in 1981 and 1983, respectively.  He began his FDIC career in 1984 in the Philadelphia Field Office.  He remained in the Philadelphia office as an bank examiner and Supervisory Examiner until 2014, when he accepted a Bank Examiner Training Specialist position at the FDIC’s Training Center in Arlington, VA until retirement at the end of 2016.  He has completed short-term assignments in Chicago, Fort Worth, New York City, and Washington.  Throughout his career he was involved in training as a mentor, coordinator, and instructor at the local, regional, and national levels.  While his career was concentrated as a safety and soundness examiner, he also completed Consumer Protection/Compliance Examinations and Information Technology Examinations.  He has been involved with examinations during disruptive financial times, such as the savings and loan crisis and the northeast real estate downturn of the 1980’s and early 1990’s.  Additionally, he participated in examinations of banks during the subprime market disruption of 2008-2009 and its aftermath.

Bob and his wife of 36 years reside in Pittsburgh, PA.  Their children live in Rochester, NY and St. Clair Shores, MI.  They enjoy traveling, visiting family, and learning history.  Bob is an officer with the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind.  He also participates in his local church as well as blind bowling.

Stay tuned for more updates on the specific dates and times for each of these presentations. We look forward to your active participation and engagement in these enriching discussions.

Thank you for being a valued member of our community, and we can’t wait to see you in our November group chats!
