Amazon Prime Members Will Lose This Perk in October—What You Need To Know
Starting October 1, 2025, Amazon will end its Prime Invitee program, which let members share their free two-day shipping with someone outside their household.
What’s Changing
- Ending: Prime Invitee, which allowed shipping benefits to be shared with any other Amazon account, regardless of address.
- Replacing: Amazon Family, which allows Prime members to share benefits with one other adult and up to four children, but only if they share the same primary residence.
- Unchanged: You can still ship Prime orders to different addresses (such as gifts or alternate delivery spots).
Why the Change?
Amazon is following a broader trend. Other companies like Netflix and Disney have cracked down on account sharing, while Costco has stepped up membership checks. The goal is clear: reduce sharing and drive more paid subscriptions.
Industry analysts also note that Prime sign-ups were down slightly before Amazon’s most recent four-day Prime Day event. Ending Invitee and encouraging new memberships could help Amazon boost growth.
What It Means for You
- If you’re currently a Prime Invitee, your access ends October 1.
- After that, you’ll need your own Prime membership or live with someone who has one to share benefits.
- Amazon is offering a discounted first year of Prime to Invitees who sign up for their own subscription.
The Bottom Line
For households with multiple people, Amazon Family may still make sense — but if you’ve been relying on Invitee from someone outside your home, it’s time to decide if a standalone Prime membership is worth the cost.
