A Message from Penny Forward Founder and CEO, Chris Peterson
Dear Penny Forward family,
By the time you read this, I’ll be packing my bags and probably feeling equal parts excited and nervous as I head off to train with my fifth guide dog. For many blind people, this moment is deeply meaningful. It marks the start of a new partnership, a new friendship, and a new kind of freedom.
I’ve been waiting for this day for almost two years. My last guide, Javier, retired shortly after the pandemic, and while he’s enjoying his well-earned rest, I’ve missed the rhythm and connection that comes from walking confidently beside a guide dog. So yes, this is a big deal for me, and I can’t wait to share the journey with you.
While I’m away, Penny Forward will be in great hands. Our board chair, Liz Bottner, our director of learning initiatives, Jeremy Grandstaff, and our benefits specialist, Jenny Holcomb, will be keeping everything running smoothly. They’ve put together an incredible lineup of Wednesday Workshops for November, and they’ll be around if you need anything while I’m out.
If you’d like to follow along with my guide dog adventure, I’ll be sharing updates on social media. Expect some honest reflections, a few funny moments, and maybe even a few photos of my new partner-in-crime.
Until I return, thank you for being part of the Penny Forward community. Your support makes everything we do possible. And a heartfelt thanks to Liz, Jeremy, and Jenny for stepping up while I’m away, you make me proud every day to be part of this team.
With gratitude,
Chris Peterson
