What to expect

1. Introductions (10 minutes)

• Welcome attendees and introduce the purpose of the workshop.
• Ice breaker: What job searching techniques have you used and recommend?

2. Working with State Services in Your Job Prep and Hunt (15 minutes)

• Provide an overview of available state services for blind individuals in the job search process.
• Discuss the role of state agencies and the types of support services they offer, such as vocational rehabilitation, job placement assistance, and assistive technology training.
• Offer guidance on how attendees can access and utilize these services in their job preparation and search.
• Participants can share their experiences of working with their state rehab services for job readiness

3. Online Job Searching

• Highlight the prevalence of online job searching and its benefits. (15 minutes)
• Provide tips and strategies for conducting effective job searches online, including using accessible job search platforms and leveraging search filters.
• Discuss how to navigate online job applications and customize resumes and cover letters for specific job opportunities.
• Offer guidance on staying organized and tracking job applications and responses.
• Participants are asked to share their experiences with job searching platforms online.

4. Why Your Network Matters (15 minutes)

• Emphasize the importance of networking in the job search process.
• Discuss how networking can provide access to hidden job opportunities and insider information about companies and industries.
• Offer strategies for building and maintaining professional relationships, both online and offline.
• Provide tips for effectively leveraging your network to gain referrals and recommendations.

5. Closing (5 minutes)

• Summarize key takeaways from the workshop.
• Encourage attendees to apply the strategies learned in their job search journey.
• Provide resources for further support, including contact information for state services and additional networking opportunities.
